20 December
Exciting news - we are definately expecting a litter in 2008. Due early February, puppies from Whisper (Aust Ch Chilolo Whispa In The Wind) and Cracker (BIS/BISS Aust Ch Chilolo SX Ice On Fire).
Whisper and Cracker are amazingly similar in type and this breeding brings together some of the best performed bloodlines in Australia and the United States. Whisper, herself a multi Best in Hound Group winner, is sired by Herc and has the cream of American lines behind her.
Rather than list the credentials of Herc's pedigree here, please look at his page on this web site and see the quality of his ancestors in his picture pedigree. On her mother's side, Whisper is a grand-daughter of Multi BIS/BISS Aust Ch Caprivi Cool Hand Luke.
Cracker is himself a Multi Best in Show All Breeds and Best in Show Specialty winner but, more importantly, he has the most wonderful temperament. His sire is Multi BISS Aust Ch Macumazahn Tragicaly Hip ET (litter sister to Multi BISS Macumazah Pearl Jam) who in turn is sired by the well known sire Aust Ch Rijstone Diesel N Dust.
Diesel is sired by the world renowned sire Multi BISS Aust Ch Marsabit Mfumo. On Cracker's mother's side is Multi BIS/Multi BISS Aust Grand Champion Kargnieulan Im Too Win and Aust Grand Champion Lionveldt Akobi Delage.

A SHALA STORY
" I should start some sort of diary called the Life and Times of Shala. Yesterday she thinks taking off after a helicopter and disappearing into the wild blue yonder is more than a fun thing to do but today was a classic…
I took her to the vets to have her nails clipped as I cannot be bothered with the hassle. The clinic I took her to I hadn’t been to before but have heard good reports so thought I’d give them a go. Met the vet, who checked her out and told me to pop back in a couple of hours. Just before I left I could see Shala had taken to this vet as her tail had come out from between her legs, and she seemed quite relaxed…always a good sign.
Arrived back at the appointed hour to retrieve her only to be told I’d lost my dog… It seems that everywhere she goes she has a knack of winning hearts and this was no exception. This is a large clinic with a large number of staff, it was morning tea time or thereabouts and a few of the staff had decided that the cage was to lowly a place for madam……. And there was madam, the centre of attention in the clinics general lunch room, thoroughly enjoying herself!!.
I guess in a sense I have lost my dog because she no longer thinks of herself as one !!
So if Hercy and Sheba ever get together again I will be putting my hand up for a carbon copy…..
Michele "

News & Updates

Tuesday 24 April
I write this with a very heavy heart. Today I had to put my beautiful Ripple to sleep. She had turned 5 years of age on 18 April. Yesterday she was happy, healthy and energetic. We went for our normal run across the paddocks - me on the motor bike and Ripple running with Herc and Beansy. As usual, she looked elegant and beautiful.
This morning, she had vomited her last night's dinner and was very quiet and subdued. Her ribs were clearly showing and her stomach slightly distended. At the vet the xray showed a large ominous shaded area in her stomach and they decided to operate immediately although they, like me, were thinking the worst and the worst it was. She had a tumour on her spleen the size of a football. How she had managed to be so healthy up to today is simply unbelievable. These dogs sure put us humans to shame.
Ripple was a soft, feminine, beautiful girl, never a hassle, always gentle and friendly. She always looked her best when she was relaxed at home although in the show ring she more than held her own. Her greatest achievement in the ring was being awarded Challenge Bitch and Runner Up Best in Show at the 2004 National Show in Melbourne.
It was for Ripple that I decided to import a dog and came across Herc who is proving to be a one in a million. I just could not decide on a suitable mate for her in Australia. Ripple had her first litter at 4 1/2 years of age whelped on 1 January 2007 without any problem at all - 11 puppies, no ridgeless, no sinus, no kinked tails, no other problems.
Anyone reading this who has a Herc/Ripple puppy, treasure and enjoy your puppy as there will now never be a repeat of this breeding. These babies are really special.
I took this photo 10 days ago. I thought she looked better than ever since she had her litter 3 months ago. Her coat was glistening, her muscles well toned and she was the picture of good health. How wrong could I be?
This afternoon I took Ripple's two puppies for a walk and thought about the circle of life. Their mum passed over the rainbow bridge today, but they are so full of the joy of being alive. Alex will be leaving us this weekend for his new home. Minty will now stay here with us. Minty is a very pretty, red wheaten girl who has probably the most beautiful head I have ever seen on a RR puppy. She is full of energy, mischievous and I am sure she will prove to be a wonderful legacy to her mum.
So, Ripple, enjoy running free chasing bunnies and doing other fun things. I will miss you terribly but your legacy lives on at Chilolo thru your beautiful daughter, Minty.

Friday 2nd February
I have just been informed today that a mistake had been made in the calculation of the Most Successful Sire award at the Rhodesian Ridgeback Specialty Show held in Sydney in October 2006. In fact HERC was MOST SUCCESSFUL SIRE. Herc was also awarded Reserve Challenge Dog at that show under all breeds judge Mr Filiberto Arneilla from Puerto Rico.
Mr Arniella's critique for Herc was: "Beautiful dog, beautiful head,
beautiful ridge, beautiful balance overall, great gait." We agree!!!
Other critiques by Mr Arniella at that show:
3rd Place Australian Bred Dog Class: BIS/BISS Ch Chilolo SX Ice On Fire:
"excellent ridge, slightly longer dog but very nice mover and nice head piece."
Best Minor Puppy In Show: Chilolo SXH Enya Gold: "Nice attitude, really nice shoulder and front, beautiful head type. Excellent ridge and superb angulation front and rear, well balanced."
3rd Place Puppy Bitch Class: Chilolo Whispa In The Wind: "Another beautiful bitch with nice ridge and head."
4th Place Australian Bred Bitch Class: BISS Ch Chilolo CJ Chicken Ripple:
"Nice body structure, superb ridge, nice head, well balanced front and rear."
4th Place Open Bitch Class: Ch Chilolo Eternity Ring: "Really beautiful bitch, a pity she is overweight and this was to her detriment. Has one of the best fronts I have seen in the show."
Unfortunately there was no critique for Wilson (Chilolo Castaway Rain) who was awarded Best Baby Puppy In Show.
