Shala and I do Pet Therapy at the Aged Care Facilities in Gympie.
Thought you might like to see a few of the pics from our Xmas visit to the Gympie Nursing Home yesterday.
Shala loves it and seems to know who to be gentle with and whose lap she can try to get into. She is now the resident Therapy Dog at Cooinda, another Aged Care Facility in Gympie.
We start there on a permanent basis next week, 3 days a week, great centre and really lovely people who work there.
They all have senses of humour which, as you can imagine, one needs. She is one heck of a special dog, can't believe she turns 5 next week.

Received this email from Michele who owns Shala (Ch Chilolo Sea Breeze Shala DWDF.S). Huge congratulations to Michele and Shala for gaining their Dancing With Dogs Freestyle title. Way to go! Shala is a daughter of Herc and Deserthunter Chinook and is a litter sister to our girl, Whisper.
"After an awesome but somewhat nerve wracking weekend I am thrilled to say Shala and I gained our first title in DWD. Shala is now - Ch Chilolo Sea Breeze Shala DWDF.S.
I am so proud to say she is the first RR to gain a title of any description in DWD here in Queensland and, I believe, the first on the East Coast of Oz to gain a Freestyle title. I am over the moon with this and looking forward to putting our new routine together for the next level.
|
|
With this new sport Australia is so lucky to have many performers who are up here at world standard, and what is even nicer these highly skilled people are incredibly keen to share and help those of us who are just starting out. The camaraderie experienced at all DWD comps and seminars is something I have never experienced any other canine discipline.. long may that live!!"

Lynni went on to win Best of Group under Mrs H. Maissen-Jarisch and then Mrs Steffi Kirschbichler awarded Lynni Runner Up Best in Show!!
This is a wonderful achievement for a Ridgeback in southern Europe, especially under 3 different judges, so huge congratulations to Sara and Lynni. Lynni is sired by our boy Biko so we are very proud.
Thanks also to Linda Costa for agreeing for Biko to come and live with us here. Biko is out of Linda’s lovely Zimbabwe import, Tiwa (BISS Zim Ch Sarula Gukatiwa) and is sired by our very own Macho (Ch Chilolo Boomerang).

Saturday 15th May
Congratulations to Shala and Michele Izzard who forwarded this email:
I am really excited to say that Shala (Ch Chilolo Sea Breeze Shala) and I gained our first qualification toward our DWD Freestyle Starters title on Saturday. As some may know DWD (Dances with Dogs) has 2 divisions, Freestyle to Music and Heelwork to Music. As we don't have an obedience background and HTM requires a large percentage to be performed at heel I chose Freestyle as we have a trick training background.
Working with a breed that is not a natural performer is challenging to say the least but we are slowly overcoming the issues this presents and motivation is building. DWD is a lot of fun and we not only perform for titles but do a lot of Demonstrations as well. I invite anyone who may be interested in exploring this new sport a little more closely to be in touch with me, I will happily assist and also put you in touch with the appropriate people in your state.
On an individual level, Shala has proven without doubt the versatility of our wonderful breed. As well as DWD, she is agility trained and whilst we don't compete we do run courses at demonstrations and train regularly. She is also a Pets in Therapy girl, visiting Retirement/Nursing/Aged Care facilities on a, now, regular basis.

Thursday 8
On Thursday 8th April, Emma and I drove 10 hours to Sydney for the RR Specialty show. We took with us Promise, Tipsy, Enya, Minty, Beansy, Trio, Herc and Juke. They all travelled really well and the weather was not too hot which was good.
|
Saturday 10
Saturday 10th was the RR Show judged by Ms Diane Adorno-LeGrand - a hound specialist from the USA.
The boys went in first and Juke won Puppy Dog Class, Trio was 2nd in Open Dog and poor Herc missed out on a place!
The girls went in and Promise managed to keep 4 feet on the ground long enough to be placed 3rd in a class of 7 baby puppy bitches.
Tipsy was 1st in Minor Puppy Bitch Class. Nova, Juke's sister, came 2nd in Puppy Bitch Class.
Enya and Minty missed out on placing in their classes but Beansy, at 9 1/2 years of age placed 5th in a class of 18 Open Bitches.
Then came Challenge Bitch - Tipsy and then she ran off against the Challenge Dog and Tipsy, at 6 1/2 months of age, was awarded BEST IN SHOW.
We were so excited and proud of her. Tipsy behaved perfectly and gaited smoothly and without effort round the ring as the judge requested, easily out-moving the challenge dog so the judge had no option but to give her the top award.
All the time Tipsy was wagging her tail and enjoying herself although she had no idea she was creating RR breed history in Australia by being the youngest RR ever to win a Best In Show award!!

Easter Weekend
Well we felt like the Easter bunny really smiled on our dogs all weekend.
In New Zealand at the North Canterbury Kennel Association shows on Friday and Saturday, Cullen (Chilolo CT Turn Up The Heat) and Donna took out Best of Breed the first day under a South African judge. On the second day, Cullen took Best of Breed and Best Baby Puppy In Hound Group. Way to go guys!!
Here in Queensland, Martini was BEST EXHIBIT (GROUP 1) IN HOUND GROUP on Saturday. Her son, Juke (Chilolo MB Jack Daniels - co-owned with Clint and Teagan) was Challenge Dog and Best Puppy In Hound Group and Cullen's sister, Promise (Chilolo CT Ride The Heat Wave), was Best Baby Puppy In Hound Group.
On Sunday, Juke beat Martini for Best of Breed and took Group 2 (Reserve Exhibit in Hound Group) and Promise was Best Baby Puppy in Group again.
And on the final day, Juke went one better and was awarded BEST EXHIBIT (GROUP 1) IN HOUND GROUP. Little Promise strutted her stuff again and was awarded Best Baby Puppy In Hound Group for the third day in a row.
Both Cullen and Promise are from Crisp and Trio.
Promise stole a lot of hearts over the weekend with her classical hound head and her beautiful soft dark eyes.
We love her and we are so proud of Juke too.

Saturday 27
Congratulations to Donna and Cullen in New Zealand. Cullen is a son of Crisp and Trio and his official name is Chilolo CT Turn Up The Heat. At Cullen's first show, he was awarded Reserve Dog and Runner Up Best of Breed.
The ruling in New Zealand is that Baby Puppies (3-6 months) can be awarded Best of Breed but cannot receive a challenge certificate. The judge asked the steward several times if she could award the challenge to Cullen (he is not yet 4 months of age) but when the steward told the judge that she could not, then she gave Cullen Reserve Challenge and Runner Up Best of Breed.
What a great way to start off a show career! Well done Donna and Cullen.

26/27/28 March

|
19/20/21 March
Emma took Trio and Enya to the Tweed River Kennel Club cluster shows. Trio was Best of Breed all 3 days and took out BEST EXHIBIT IN HOUND GROUP (GROUP 1) on Friday and Sunday. Enya was Challenge Bitch and Runner Up Best of Breed to Trio on the 2 days and took out RUNNER UP BEST EXHIBIT OF GROUP (GROUP 2) to Trio on Sunday.
This is very unusual for 2 exhibits from the same breed to take out the two top awards in the group. The judge, Mrs Faye Harris from Victoria, is known world wide as a breeder of quality Hungarian Viszlas. She was very complimentary about Trio and Enya and she said that they were the best moving dogs she had seen all weekend.
|
6/7 March
At Mudgee Show on 6th, Nova (Chilolo MB Nova Go To Whoa AI) took Challenge Bitch and Best Puppy in Hound Group. In September 2009, a catastrophic earthquake hit Indonesia and this article has been sent to me from Anne-Marie in France with translation by Elizabeth Pestalozzi. The article is about the Ridgeback dog, Adam and his owner who volunteered to assist with rescue work in Indonesia following the earthquake. Adam was bred by Anne-Marie and is a son of Pepsi (Ch Chilolo Super Cool) and once again proves the versatility of this wonderful breed.
We are very proud of the Chilolo connection.

Gatto was first place in the Baby Puppy Dog Class and his litter sister Mia was 4th in Baby Puppy Bitch Class with 17 entries. Both Gatto and Mia are sired by our boy, Chukkie (Ch Chilolo Alaska Blue) so we are proud of their achievements.
