Received this email from Lani who has a Ch Ketchwayo Majumdar - Sorrento
daughter:
Hi Rosemary. All good in Tassie here with beautiful Sadie, now eight and gentle obedient most fantastic dog ever. Happily still running playing games and being a gentle girl. Have recently seen a protective side to her I'd never seen before when a grumpy growly Maltese started visiting. She likes to keep the peace and won't tolerate his temper tantrums, but always asserts appropriately. She is lovely. Thank you so much. Oh and have a lovely Christmas. All the best Lani. X

Hi Rosemary,
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
It's been a while since I said I'd send you some photo's of Jax, but here they are. He is doing well. We are so happy to have him as part of our family. He is very well behaved with the kids and knows his boundaries with all us.
Hope you have a great day. Thank you again for introducing us to Jax.
Warm regards,
Matt, Tracy, Sofie, Remy and Jax.

Monday 3 October
WOW - what a thrill!!
Trio is awarded BEST IN SHOW at the prestigious Hound Club of New South Wales with almost 200 hounds entered. It was a very strong lineup with several multiple Best in Show winning hounds.
This is only the second time since the inception of the Hound Club over 30 years ago that a Ridgeback has taken out top honours. The first time was in 1983 when Ch LWillows Moonrover bred by Jenny Arthur and owned by Denise and Tony Trollope won the show.
Interestingly, way back in the pedigrees, there is a connection between Rover and Trio. Way to go boys! This is Trio's 20th Best in Show award and he certainly had a very special dinner that night.

11 Sept
On 11 September, I had to put my sweet Becky to sleep – Ch Chilolo Becky Brown - so I have lost my 2 livers in the space of one month. She turned 12 years old on 17 June. Becky was never the greatest show dog but that never matters to us. She was a character in true ridgeback fashion and was happy and healthy until her final day. I miss her.
On 2 August, I had to put Bandit (Ch Chilolo Copper Bandit) to sleep. Bandit turned 13 in March this year. Luckily I have semen stored from him which I will be using in the future to perpetuate some of his wonderful breed features.

Sad greetings

2/3 July
This month has started well with Trio and Emma taking out BEST IN HOUND GROUP and then RUNNER UP BEST IN SHOW on Saturday. The following day, Trio was outdone by his mother, Enya who was awarded BEST IN HOUND GROUP under ex South African judge Mr Kim Meyer from New South Wales. The group on both days was very strong with a number of multi best in show winning dogs present so we were thrilled with the results. Enya has about 30 points still to gain for her Grand Championship so hopefully she will finish in the next few weeks. At home, Crisp and her babies continue to thrive and Shala is getting fatter!!

27 June
Some very exciting news today - Shala was scanned and has at least 8 puppies. She is due at the end of July. The exciting part is the sire - BISS Am/Can Champion Wyndrunhr Skyhawk Of Course. After much consideration, we selected Hawk in keeping with our tradition of seeking out sires with sound conformation, good temperament and great movement and our sincere thanks go to his owner Barb Fischler and his breeder Barb Turpin - without whose help and support this could not have happened.
We also thank Phil Thomas here in Brisbane who performed yet another successful AI operation. We are awaiting the arrival of this litter with great anticipation. Hawk is pictured here winning Best in Specialty in Canada under world renowned breeder and judge Mrs Liz Megginson from South Africa.

Sunday 26 June
I received this email from Vanessa in South Australia who bred/owns and handles Gatto. Gatto is sired by one of our boys Ch Chilolo Alaska Blue and was awarded Best in Hound Group on the weekend – well done Vanessa and Gatto!
Hi again Rosemary,
Some news from SA...Gatto and I only went to one show this weekend, yesterday under Mrs O’Martyn (NSW) at SACA.
She awarded Gatto “Best in Group” – we were thrilled!
There were over 80 hounds in the group with lots of big winning dogs there, so it was pretty special. He showed like a dream to win BOB and I think the Judge was pretty impressed by this – she exclaimed to me several times how handsome he was, and then said he was the “most handsome RR she had seen”!
Still smiling

Wednesday 22 June
Here is a reminder to everyone with dogs to make sure the front gate is locked or that the dogs/puppies are not able to get to the front gate. Safara was a gorgeous little girl from Kimba and Enya and our hearts go out to Tracey and her family for this tragic loss.
Hi Rosemary,
It is with great sadness I send this email.
Some low life scumbag opened our lower gate and the dogs got out. I went out searching but couldn’t find them.. Half hour later I got the call we dread.... someone had hit our dog.. unfortunately it was Safara. It was instant.
I am an absolute mess and haven’t told the kids yet.. I got the call after they were on the school bus.
Trace
RIP Saffi xx

Trio takes out yet another BEST IN SHOW. This time under Mrs Beech from Canada who awarded him Best in Hound Group and then local judge Mrs Fran Matthews awarded him Best In Show. 21 May
Kids and puppies make the most fantastic pictures! On the weekend, Lisa and Shane and their 3 young boys came to collect their new puppy, Evie. The boys spent about 2 hours playing with the puppies and they all had a ball! It is great socialisation for the puppies and great entertainment for us adults!
Evie went home with them and has settled in very well.

Last month, Teagan and Clint welcomed into the world their baby son, Archie. I received this email from Teagan on Sunday:
Thought you would like to see this, the one with Juke was taken today! If Archie cries he goes looking for him or if we are changing his nappy or bathing he follows us and watches. I think he will be a good big brother he likes to smell him and lick his feet.

21/22 May
Emma took Trio and Promise to Maryborough for the weekend of championship shows. On Saturday, Trio was Best in Hound Group and Promise was Challenge Bitch and on Sunday Trio was Runner Up in Hound Group and Promise was Challenge Bitch which gave her the title of Australian Champion. Way to go Promise! She is Trio's daughter and will take a step back from showing for a while so we can show Whisper and Enya to their Grand Champion titles.

9th May – I received this email today from Julie who owns one of the Enya – Kimba girls:
Hi Rosemary
I have attached some photos of our beautiful Sasha. She has graduated from puppy pre-school and now absolutely loves playing with the dogs (large or small) at the dog park and going for short walks with Bella. She has even had a couple of swims in the pool with us. She is an absolute joy! A little naughty at times, but picks up things easily when training - definitely has a mind of her own! Comes when she's called at the dog park though, which is great. And LOUD!!! I thought Bella was vocal, but she has nothing on Sasha. She even makes little noises in her sleep.
Cheers
Julie

8th May - I received this lovely email giving us an update on Jack - one of the Enya - Kimba puppies who lives in Sydney.
Hi Rosemary
Thought you may like a Jack update. He is 15 kilos and all muscle! He is starring at puppy pre-school, learning quickly and playing really well with the other puppies. He is learning to walk on a lead, to be tied up and the basic commands. He and Kira play so well together - I think he has really brought out her playful side which is great. Hope the other puppies are doing just as well in their new homes.
Cheers

Sunday 24 April

Katherine helped out by handling Zuka for me in the run off for Best of Breed. Whisper was Best of Breed and Zuka was Runner Up Best of Breed and went on to win Best Intermediate In Hound Group.

Saturday 23 April
Katherine and Cagn take out Challenge Dog at the CCCQ Easter Championship Show in Brisbane. This is Katherine's first attempt at showing Cagn and she did a great job. Unfortunately we don't have any pics but will try and get some. I took Zuka (Kipsigis KZ Zuka) in and took out reserve challenge dog. Whisper was Best of Breed and earned a few more points towards her Grand Championship title.

8/9/10 April
Trio is without doubt one awesome Ridgeback!
On Friday, he and Emma were awarded Best in Hound Group by Mr S Schwerdt (Sth Aust) and then they went on to win BEST IN SHOW under Mr J Rice (Sth Aust).
On Saturday, at the same grounds Trio and Emma were awarded Best in Hound Group by Mrs J Butterfield (Sth Aust) who also judged general specials and awarded them BEST IN SHOW.
That day also Cagn (Chilolo WD Cagn of the Wind) for Derek and Katherine and Cagn took out Runner Up Best of Breed to Trio and then Best Puppy In Hound Group. Cagn has not been in the ring for a few months but he behaved really well.
On Sunday, at Pine Rivers, Emma and Trio were again awarded Best in Hound Group by Mr J Rice and then went under Ms C Davis (NSW) for General Specials and were again awarded BEST IN SHOW.
3 shows for 3 BEST IN SHOW awards!!
To my knowledge no other RR anywhere has achieved this so I am truly so proud of Emma and Trio.

9 April
I received this email today from Anthea and Jarrod who have Jack from Kimba and Enya. Jack is 10 weeks of age.
Hi Rosemary
Thought it was time for a Jack update. He is fantastic! So smart, willing to please and heaps of fun. He is keeping us well entertained.
He has lessons in the morning which he keeps getting bored with so we have to advance - hoping to do obedience and agility when he gets older as we think he will love it. He is driving Kira and Romeo insane but they are so good with him. He is a very handsome boy - I am sure he would love to do a dog show or two if you want to take him out next time there is one in Sydney? We may be biased but we think he is lovely!
Cheers Anthea

March 2011
News & Updates
|
28 March
Well Greg said it would happen - I said it wouldn't but it did! Martini and Minty were due to whelp a week apart but Martini went late and Minty went early so they whelped on the same day. Unfortunately Martini (to Biko) had only 2 boys early in the morning of Monday 28 March and Minty (to Trio) had 7 boys and 3 girls from 11am to 6pm. It has worked out quite well as Martini can look after 4 of Minty's babies which gives them 6 each to raise.
They are all doing well.

Enya's babies turn 6 weeks of age on Monday. They are soooo cute!! More photos on the Current Litter page.
|
5/6 March
Emma went to Casino for the weekend. I had to stay home and look after Enya's babies.
Em took Trio, Promise and Bobbie and had a great weekend. Trio was awarded Best in Group and BEST IN SHOW on Saturday, Bobbie won the Gundog Group and Promise was Challenge Bitch. The following day, Bobbie again won the Gundog Group and Trio won the Hound Group and went on to Runner Up Best in Show.

February 2011
News & Updates
|
27 February
I went to Millmerran Show with Zuka (or Bobbie Jane as we tend to call him!) and Whisper. Bobbie Jane was awarded Challenge Dog but Whisper beat him for Best of Breed and went on to win 25 points for Best Exhibit in Hound Group (Group 1).
|
26 February
Emma took Trio, Promise and Bobbie to the Gundogs and Heavy Breeds show in Brisbane. Trio was awarded Best Exhibit In Hound Group (Group 1) and Promise was Challenge Bitch.
|
20 February
Emma went to Caboolture show today with Trio. She thought Clifton was hot but Clifton had nothing on Caboolture which had far more humidity and conditions were not good. It didn't bother Trio however and as usual he showed to perfection. Mr A Druve from Victoria awarded Trio Best in Group and Mr J Forbes from Sydney (both Hound specialists) awarded him BEST IN SHOW.
|
12 February
At Clifton Show today, Trio again took out Best in Group (Group 1) and Whisper was Challenge Bitch. It was very hot and the dogs were so good. Trio always shows well and he was trying to play with Emma as she ran round the ring with him in the stinking heat!
|
5/6 February
At Allora Kennel Club shows this weekend, Trio was awarded Best in Group (Group 1) and Runner Up Best in Show on Saturday and Best of Breed on Sunday. Promise was Challenge Bitch both days.

News & Updates

29 January
This evening there was a Brisbane show conducted by Beenleigh Kennel Club with Miss S Tong from the Phillipines judging Hounds and Dr M. Velassio-Texiera from Brazil judging General Specials. We were thrilled when Miss Tong selected Trio as her Best Exhibit in Group but when Trio went on to win BEST IN SHOW, we were so excited!
Here is a pic taken on that night.

January in a nutshell:
24 January
Our gorgeous Enya presented us with 10 babies. She had 5 boys and 5 girls but unfortunately 1 boy was still born. The remaining 9 are all doing well and gaining weight every day.
|
Trio amazingly wins 3 BEST IN SHOW awards and 1 Runner Up from a total of 5 shows during the month. This takes his total to 12 Best in Show Awards which is a breed record in Australia. He is an awesome dog and he and Emma work well together as a team in the ring.

10th January
A terrible weather event hits our local town of Toowoomba causing flash flooding in the central part of town resulting in huge amounts of water flowing east towards Brisbane and west towards Dalby. Luckily we escaped with no more damage than some destroyed fencing on our property but other areas have been completely destroyed.
Damage to houses and properties is unbelievable - many people died as they were not able to escape the wall of water that flowed east. Here are some photos of damage done. Also a photo of the small creek that runs thru our property - one pic shows what it usually looks like and the other is what it looked like on 10 January.
In fact for many months of the year there is no water it in at all.
