Happy birthday to our gorgeous boy "Biko" - Aust Ch Sarula Lupani Biko (AI). Biko was bred by Linda Costa, Sarula and Linda brought his mum Tiwa (Zim Ch Sarula Gukatiwa) from Zimbabwe and Biko's dad is our homebred boy "Macho" (Aust Ch Chilolo Boomerang) who was born on 12 April 1984 so Linda used some frozen semen to produce Biko.
This photo shows Biko getting a birthday kiss from Enya. He is such a character and loves to be up on things. Not unusual to see him on a chair or a table! He had an interesting show career and was awarded Reserve Challenge Dog at Sydney Royal and Challenge Dog at Brisbane Royal. He loves going for walks and I take him out every day if I can although he is slowing down a bit now.

Received this email from Toffee's new owners in Sydney. Toffee arrived 2 days ago:
Hi Rosemary & Julie
You would be very proud of your little girl she is settling in beautifully.
I can't believe how smart she is and is learning very quickly. We have taught her to sit and drop down already. Lots of treats involved so have cut down her food a little not much mind you . She has already taken pride of place in the lounge room moving from the couch to Johns chair. At night she always sleeps beside my bed and never moves all night .
She loves my car and lies her full length on the back seat or sits straight up looking around. It really is amazing she has caught on so quickly to the change in routine with the toilet only had to show her a couple of times and she had it all figured out. Only mistake was down stairs but not her fault someone shut the back door, but has only happened the once so she of course didn't get into any trouble at all. We have a very big family and they all think she is magnificent. The grandchildren range from a 1 year old to 22 year old so she has plenty of admirers including our head vet nurse from Allambie vet clinic who called past with some treats for her and can't wait for me to come to the clinic and show her off to all the vets who had a hand in Simba's care . We will keep a close eye on her weight.....!!
Her park training is going really well and we managed to drop the lunge lead twice let her free and she ran around everywhere in large circles but came back to us for her treat and lots of praise of course. She has met some dogs at the park but still will remain cautious for awhile yet so keep her on the lead she has had some little plays with them . Loves Bonnie who has Ridgy in her somewhere and lives next door. 99 per cent of the dogs where we walk are very well socialised. We are up early every morning and have lovely special times with her at the park .
There is lots of love coming from everywhere and she is just cruising through beautifully never turns a hair - she is a real professional we love her to pieces. I will send some photos as soon as I can it is a busy time for everyone . Have a happy Xmas and New year.
Best wishes to you both Helen & John.

Due to damage to the Durack grounds from a mini-tornado on Thursday night, the shows were moved to the Brisbane Exhibition grounds. Lovely venue with a huge shed providing shade all day. At the two shows on Saturday Kali was Best of Breed and Mr Divanni from Chile shortlisted her for Best in Group. Solar was Challenge Dog both shows and also on Sunday when he was beaten for BOB by Kali's litter sister, Oshun owned/handled by Katherine Aland. Well done Katherine! Also on Sunday Chatter (Deserthunter CL Final Word) made her debut into the ring and behaved beautifully.

At the Sunshine Coast Championship shows in sweltering heat, Kali was Runner Up Best of Breed to Solar on Saturday and she was Best of Breed and Best Australian Bred in Hound Group on Sunday.

Today I received this lovely email and photos from Melissa who, with her husband Brad, purchased Zahra from us a few weeks ago. It is very satisfying to see these puppies go to such lovely homes.
"She is awesome, pics that follow are at Zahra's kindy she goes once a week to show the kids her new tricks and how much she is growing and I teach them how to interact with dogs, and importantly when not to and also to discuss body language etc. She gets extremely well socialised at the same time."

I received this lovely email today:
Hi Rosemary, We are having a b/day party tomorrow for Amber. she is our beautiful girl. This photo taken at 8 months. She has grown... still a lean dog. Is very agile, she can dob her nose on the top of my shoulder as she jumps past me. Is as gentle as a baby when she stands up and puts her feet on my chest.
She still crawls onto our laps for her cuddle. She can stay for extended sessions. Waits and waits for me to give her the come on call. Never breaks, just waits. She can find anything if you give her the sent, Rod cannot beat her at the seek game. Even if he is on the tank she will track him. We can hide her treats anywhere in the yard and send her to seek and she will always find them, but will bring them to me before she eats them. Very smart dog and I am going to keep training her and teaching her. She loves to please, Is learning to bark when I tell her to speak. Not a constant barker, only if something or someone comes near the house. One word from me and she will stop.
She is still a tea soak and will endeavour to get a drink of tea from our cups. We are trying to break the habit. She can drink a cup of tea without spilling a drop and never knocks over the cup. We have our tea outside and we get up to go and look at a tree or rose and forget Amber but remember to run back to save the cuppa but too late. She shakes hands and will give Rod 5. She sleeps while we cut her nails, doesn't bother one bit. Some days when we walk up to the top end of the paddock I get a bit wonky so she walks in front of me and I hold her tail and she takes mum home. If my back gives out I sit and she will guard me until Rod comes to get me up.
She loves her baths and will stand and never shake the water off until the bath is over. Carries things for us if we are working in the yard. She has to help all the time and is good at it, doesn't muck around and stands quietly until we take the item off of her. She thinks she is so clever. Has to be involved in everything we do. Of course we love her to bits. Still a deep red colour with a shiny coat. She looks regal and so beautiful. Again thank you for her we are devoted to her. Hope all well there. Very hot and dry here.
Take care Lorraine and Rod and Amber the wonder dog.

I received this lovely email and photos from Victoria regarding Zara who is a puppy from the Nala and Makani litter born on 17 June:
Hi Rosemary - Gregg and I can't thank you enough for Zara! She is the most gorgeous puppy (not that we are at all biased ) and has the personality to match. She immediately became part of our little family. She is so loving and just wants to spend her time cuddled up with Gregg and I (not sure how that'll go when she is full grown ??).
She is growing so fast, sometimes I think while Gregg and I watch! She is curious, has lots of energy and wants to be friends with everyone she meets. Now she is past all her vaccinations we can take her out on walks, and have taken her down to the beach a few times now. Zara still isn't 100% sure about the waves yet but I think she must sniff up about half the sand every walk. Thank you again for little Zara. We can't imagine our little family without her in it.
And please keep us on the list for a little boy puppy mid-way through next year. From Victoria and Gregg .

I had two lovely emails this morning - one from Marianne Gellin, a very well known RR breeder in Finland who imported Matilda from Darrel and Shaneen Mills, Zimbalooba RRs in Albury, a few years ago. Matilda is a grandson of Cracker - BIS/BISS Ch Chilolo SX Ice On Fire. Marianne says:
"This weekend has been very nice. Matildas daughter Ilona got CAC both Sat and Sun (one more to go for CH). Matilda's granddaughter Ikimba Jahzara was BOS yesterday and got CAC (Judge:Jan Coppens), Matilda's granddaughter Kizimbi Umuhimi was BOB today... They just rock in the ring. Could you please make a phone call to "Zimbalooba" and tell my regards - I am so grateful for Matilda!"
And another from Katrina in Townsville with Toohey who is Chilolo MB Tooheys On Sunday (Biko and Martini)
"Hey Rosemary, Toohey got first in excellent jumping today, beating the border collies! Also got his gambler dog (GD) title yesterday with a third place. Between him and Soda I came home with 7 firsts and 1 third from 10 runs. Lots of chocolate to eat now. Cheers, Katrina"
At home, Minty's babies turned 8 weeks old on Sunday and Nala's babies are 10 weeks this coming Tuesday.

Some of the Nala/Makani puppies have gone to their new homes now and we received this email from Brad and Melissa today: "Rosemary, Hi, we absolutely adore her she is fitting into the family perfectly. We have named her 'Shumba' since it means lion in the native language, in her native country of origin, Zimbabwe -Shona, and they were used as Lion hunting dogs and affectionately referred to as lion dogs.?? we think it suits as perfectly as she is fitting into the family?? Brad and Melissa"

Congratulations to all concerned and big hugs from Biko here in Australia. Lovely to see his progeny doing so well on the international show scene.

In an email from South Australia we received good news from Vanessa regarding 'Gatto' who is sired by our boy Chukkie (Ch Chilolo Alaska Blue):
"Thought I would share with you how well Chukkie's son "Gatto" is doing in the show ring of late. At Easter under Mr N Clarke (NZ) he won Runner Up Best in Group (66 in the Group). Then again on Saturday 3 May 2014 he won Runner up Best in Group under Mrs P Smith (Qld) with 78 in the Group.
I've attached a couple of photos from his win on Saturday. In the first photo the Judge had asked me to take him around and then to just let him stand himself, and this is what Gatto gave me - love him to pieces!"

On Easter Sunday Image presented us with 12 healthy puppies all with ridges. They are now 2 weeks old and are thriving. I don't think I have ever seen fatter puppies!!

I had a lovely weekend of judging at Allora Kennel Club this weekend. On Friday I selected a Cairn Terrier as my Best in Group and he went on to win Best in Show under a different judge. Then on Saturday I judged gundogs and selected a wonderful English Springer for Best in Group and he went on to Best in Show under another judge and on Sunday I selected a Pekingese for Best in Toy Group and he went on to win Best in Show under a different judge.
Also on 7th February Image came into season so hopefully, if everything goes to plan, she will have a litter of puppies in April.

Received this email today from Jo with Trapper in the UK:
"Hi Rosemary,
We went to his first ring craft class last night, which went brilliantly well in terms of his enjoying himself and not very well at all in terms of ring craft. Oh well, you win some, you lose some. He arrived and strode confidently in, spotted a Bernese puppy (big girl) and boinged towards her.
She boinged back and that kind of set the scene for the whole evening.
There were only four puppies there last night, the Bernese, a 12-week-old Maltese, a 16-week-old Norfolk terrier and Trapper, so the line-up was interesting, with the two giants and the two soft toys, who were both very game! The class is held in a church hall, so they put down a non-slip plastic mat, around which Trapper goose-stepped, much to the amusement of the audience. Well, he'd never come across a floor like that before... And I'm beginning to think that he thinks his name is, Lookatthesizeofhisfeet, which is the first word everyone says when they meet him. His piece de resistance last night was with a Russian Terrier called Igor, who is HUGE.
His owner says that he looks like a man in a dog suit, and she's not wrong!
Igor loves puppies so came shimmying across the floor on his tummy.
Unfortunately, in this position he rather looked like a big, black rug on the move, which intrigued Trapper in a good way. Moving carpets? Great stuff. He then spied the wagging stern end, and the game was on, with Trapper batting Igor on the head and Igor rolling on the floor with his legs in the air. As you can see, the ring craft class is very serious - not.
Actually, all I'm concerned about at the moment is that he is well socialised and at ease with other dogs. So far, so good.
Tomorrow is his first puppy obedience class. I'll keep you posted."

21 January
Today we said goodbye to Trapper as he headed off on the long journey to the UK. I am sure he will miss his mum, Martini, but he is going to a lovely home with other RRs so he will be happy once he gets there.
|
19/20 January
Trapper had his show debut this weekend at the Burnett KC weekend. He had such fun meeting all the other breeds and he did so well taking out Best Baby Puppy in Hound Group on the Saturday and placing 3rd in a huge all breed sweepstakes class the following day.
At Burnett KC as well as Trapper doing so well, Julie and Tikki Tavey were Challenge Bitch at the first show and Best of Breed at the second show so we were thrilled.

20 January 2014
Well 2014 has kicked off in a big way for us. This email was received from Sharon at Sonstraal RR Kennels in Scotland:
"Happy New Year! Just to let you know Sam is Top RR Stud in the UK for 2013! This is the fourth time he has been awarded this title! Out of 11 litters produced, 7 of the litters produced a Champion, not bad!!!"
Sam is our home bred boy BIS/BISS Eng/Aust Ch Chilolo CJ Someday Sam and we are certainly very proud - something no other Australian bred RR has achieved. Sam's sire is Chilolo Jonty Goes Easy and his mother is Aust Ch Chilolo Go For Gold.

11/12/13 January
The Washington Cluster shows consist of Puyallup KC, Tacoma KC and Sammamish Kennel Club and there was a panel of about 30 judges. I judged a variety of toy breeds, gundogs and hounds and on the final day I was thrilled to judge Best in Show. I awarded a lovely Bouvier des Flanders Best in Show and a black Labrador Runner Up. Tuesday I headed back to Australia in time for the Burnett Kennel Club weekend!
On Monday 6 January I flew from Palm Springs to Oklahoma to stay a week with Emma and John. The weather at Palm Springs was lovely - warm sunny days and cool nights. Oklahoma was a different story with ice on the swimming pool about 4 inches thick! It has to be smashed with a sledge hammer and some removed so that it doesn't damage the tiles too badly. Had a great week and then flew to Seattle on Friday 10 January for another 3 days of judging.
|
5 January
This was the second and final day of the prestigious Kennel Club of Palm Springs shows. Again I was lucky to have been contracted for several different toy, gundog and hound breeds and also I judged Best Exhibit In Hound Group. My Best in Group was a Norwegian Elkhound, Group 2 was a Bloodhound, Group 3 was a basset and Group 4 a lovely whippet. That wrapped up a wonderful few days in Palm Springs. The venue of these shows was the Palm Springs Polo grounds which were spectacular. Palm Springs is surrounded on 3 sides by mountains and is desert country with a large underground water supply so whatever is watered and irrigated is very green but the remainder is bone dry making for amazing scenery of contrasting country.
|
4 January
Today was the first of the two day Kennel Club of Palm Springs all breeds shows. This is a prestigious weekend with a panel of almost 60 judges and I was thrilled to be part of that panel. I judged several hound and gundog breeds and one of the breeds I judged was the Redbone Coonhound. These dogs are the most glorious color - rich liver chestnut with short coats which glisten in the sun. I awarded this dog Best of Breed and Mr Tony Kelly from Ireland awarded him 3rd placement in the Hound Group
|
3 January
The day after the RR show at Indio, California I judged a number of breeds at the Inland Empire Hound Club which was held at the same venue. My first breed was Black and Tan Coonhounds which are a spectacular breed. Following the Black and Tans were the Bluetick Coonhounds, now quite as large but another lovely breed. I then had a few basenjis and then 98 whippets. It was the Regional Specialty Show held by the Greater San Diego Whippet Association in conjunction with the Hound Club. There were some beautiful whippets and my Best of Breed was a gorgeous bitch Gr Ch Solaris Saxon Shore Hypnotiq Kamio. My Best Opposite Sex was Kimera Oracle of Watch Me and my Winners Bitch who was also Best of Winners was Summit Wonderstruck at Countrywind who is a litter sister to my Winners Dog Summit Speaknow of Countrywind.
|
3 January
I was fortunate to be invited to judge the San Diego RR Club specialty show today and there was an entry of almost 150 RRs which is a record for a regional specialty outside a National circuit. At the end of the day I awarded Best In Show to a lovely bitch - Gr Ch Oakhurst Autumn Rain. Best Opposite Sex was a Pupukea-Ridge dog and Best of Winners was a very promising young bitch Chiastolite's Desert Huntress By HPK Tropaco JC. It was a lovely day with super dogs and it was my pleasure and honor to judge them.
