2009 in Review
What a year it has been for Trio. With 4 x BEST IN SHOW awards to his credit as well as 13 x BEST IN GROUP (GROUP 1) and 6 x Runner Up Best in Group (Group 2) awards and Runner Up Best in Show at the Sydney Specialty Show. He is an awesome dog and draws comments wherever he goes. We look foward to furthering his show career in 2010 as he matures.
Two litters this year - one from Martini to Barry and one from Crisp to Trio. From the first litter, Nova, Juke and Winnie are in the show ring and holding their own very well. Winnie and Juke have had class in group awards and Nova has taken a Best of Breed before she reached 7 months of age!
Crisp's babies will not hit the ring until next year and we are confident they will do very well. My thanks to Ann Christie, Deserthunter RRs, for her help in whelping Crisp.
On a sad note, Sox crossed the rainbow bridge this year. She was 11 1/2 years of age. She was a very special girl and will always have a special place in the hearts of Emma and myself. Soxy has left her legacy in her daughter Enya and grandson Trio. We miss her.
In February, Emma and I went to Westminster Kennel Club show in New York and had a fantastic trip. The presentation of the show was amazing and we saw some wonderful dogs as well as doing some sightseeing.
I continue with my judges' training and was pleased to be invited to judge the Hound Club of Canberra show on 5 December. There was a very good entry and some lovely dogs. My Best in Show was a Deerhound dog and my Runner Up was a gorgeous Beagle bitch.
Wishing all our friends a happy New Year and look forward to meeting up again in 2010.

We would like to wish all our friends a very merry Christmas!
Trio took another 2 Best In Group (Group 1) awards and is now well over half way to his Grand Champion. He has had an amazing year and we are so proud of him. He has also sired his first litter of 9 puppies (1 stillborn) to Crisp (Chilolo WC Burnt Tua). The puppies were born on 3 December and the remaining 8 are looking really lovely at 4 weeks of age.
Nova (Chilolo MB Nova Go To Whoa AI) is doing really well in the Sydney Show scene and has already taken out a Best of Breed award and Runner Up Best of Breed. She is not yest 7 months of age!! Nova is co-owned by Julie Francis and Sandra Bell and we wish them all the best for a successful future and look forward to watching their career next year.
Nova's sister Winnie (Chilolo MBTequila Mist)
Emma and I headed to Sydney and Melbourne for a circuit of shows with international judges. From a total of 6 shows we came back with 3 x Best of Breed and 2 x Runner Up Best of Breed awards which made the trip worthwhile.
It was good to catch up with all the RR folk in Sydney and Melbourne.

18 October
In the morning show at Newcastle, Nova (litter sister to Juke and Winnie) and Julie win the Baby Puppy Bitch class and then go Best Baby Puppy of Breed. At the afternoon show, Nova and Sandra placed 3rd out of 35 in an all breeds sweepstakes class and she again won her class. Way to go girls!
10/11 October
Hervey Bay Kennel Club double shows and on Saturday Trio takes BOB, Runner Up to best in Group and Best Junior in Show and on Sunday Mr John Lowbridge from New South Wales awarded Trio BEST EXHIBIT IN GROUP AND BEST EXHIBIT IN SHOW!!! This is Trio's 4th Best In Show award. Emma's American Cocker was awarded Best Exhibit in Group on Sunday under gundog judge Mrs Beryl Hession from NSW. Winnie (Chilolo MB Tequila Mist co-owned with Jane Cantlon) was Baby of Breed both days and Best Baby Puppy In Show at the Open show held Saturday night so all in all we had a great weekend.
3/4 October - Rhodesian Ridgeback Specialty Show, Sydney
We have not missed a Sydney Specialty for quite a few years and we decided we would not pre-empt what the judge would do and so we entered 2 boys - Juke and Trio - and 4 girls - Beansy, Whisper, Enya and Martini. Juke's sister, Nova, lives in Sydney now and she was also entered.
Here are our results:
Trio:
|
Runner Up Best in Show, Best Junior In Show, Reserve Challenge Dog, Best Ridge Dog
|
Juke:
|
2nd place Baby Puppy Dog
|
Nova:
|
Best Baby Puppy In Show
|
Martini:
|
3rd place Intermediate Bitch
|
Enya:
|
1st Australian Bred Bitch and Best Gaited Bitch. This was the biggest class of the show and Enya showed to perfection. In the challenge lineup, she outmoved the other class winners, but she was not awarded either Challenge or Reserve. She did however win Best Gaited Bitch class.

Beansy:

unplaced
|
Whisper:
|

It was interesting also that Nova was the only female to win a run-off. All the other In Show awards went to the males. Despite the cold and sometimes wet weather, we had a great weekend catching up with friends who we don't often see and the success of our dogs exceeded our expectations.

Friday 25
At Nanango & District All Breeds Kennel Club today, Winnie (Chilolo MB Tequila Mist) co-owned with Jane Cantlon took out BEST BABY PUPPY IN SHOW at the championship show. This is her second Baby In Show award.
Unfortunatey the judge for the champ show didn't like Trio much and only gave him reserve challenge, but the judge at the open show more than made up for this and awarded Trio BEST EXHIBIT IN SHOW!! This is Trio's 3rd Best in Show award. This movement pic was taken by Michael Trafford in August about a week before Trio turned a year old. How's this for superb movement!!! No wonder he won Best Gaited Dog at the RR Specialty Show in June!

28/29/30 August
Another 3 day weekend of camping and showing and a rodeo on Saturday night which was enjoyed by many of the dog people!!
On Friday Trio was BOB and Junior in Group and Crisp was Reserve Challenge Bitch.
Saturday Trio was BEST IN GROUP (GROUP 1) and Junior In Show and Crisp was Challenge Bitch.
The judge for Saturday was Mr Kerley from South Australia who told Emma that Trio was the best RR he had ever seen which was a lovely comment.
On Sunday, Mr Jackson from North Queensland gave Trio Challenge Dog but not BOB which was unfortunate because Mr Kerley was judging General Specials and told me he had been looking forward to judging Trio in the General Specials as he would have awarded him Best in Show!!
21/22/23 August
Emma went off showing all weekend at the Combined Northern Rivers Kennel Club with Trio, Enya and Bobbie and achieved the following results:
Bobbie Best of Breed American Cocker all 3 days and Best Australian Bred in the Gundog Group on Sunday.
Enya beat Trio for Best of Breed the first day and was awarded Group 1 (Best Exhibit in Group).
However, on Saturday and Sunday Trio was awarded BEST EXHIBIT IN SHOW both days! The judges were from Tasmania - Mr and Mrs Norris and Mr Munton.
This is a fantastic achievement for such a young dog. Trio turned 12 months of age on Thursday and gained enough points on the weekend for his Australian Champion title to become Chilolo Champion Number 54. He is such an exciting young dog with lovely balance and substance together powerful, effortless movement and, of course, a lovely temperament.

And at home, Rusty passed the time by destroying his bed!! It certainly was him even though the look on his face is angelic! Beansy is in the background with a look of contempt on her face.

11 June
Very sad day today as one of Martini's baby girls died. I don't know what happened as Martini has been such a wonderful mother and has been so careful with her babies. I guess she must have laid on one without realising. The other 6 are doing really well.
8 June
At the Western Suburbs Kennel Club Show in Brisbane with an entry of just over 200 hounds, Minty was awarded Best of Breed by Mrs L Bett of Canada and she also gave Minty a GROUP 2 award (RUNNER UP BEST EXHIBIT IN GROUP). What a thrill!! Minty now has only 10 points to go for her Grand Champion title.
7 June
At the Ipswich Kennel Club Show in Brisbane there was an entry of 248 hounds and just over 60 RRs. Minty came 3rd in Open Bitch and Trio was BEST PUPPY IN HOUND GROUP under Canadian Mrs S. Verhulst.

Trio - Best Puppy In Show and Best Gaited Dog
Rusty - Best Junior Dog
Bentley - Best Australian Bred Dog
Crisp - 3rd Junior Bitch Class
Shala - 2nd Open Bitch Class
Unfortunately Ms Parker did not place Whisper, Beansy or Enya so the girls lucked out completely!
5 June
At Toogoolawah Show today, Crisp was awarded Best of Breed and Group 2 (Runner Up Exhibit in Hound Group) under Queensland judge Mr Ken Iggleden.
Well done Crispy Cream!!
4 June
Martini gave birth today to 7 beautiful babies. The dad is Barry (BISS Ch Annabahr Barrister Brown) who we bought as a 4 year old after he had had 2 homes and he lived with us until he died. This is the first time we have used frozen semen from Barry and the babies look gorgeous - 2 boys, 5 girls weighing between 500 and 520 grams and all with good ridges. Can't wait to see them grow!

26 May
Here are some cute pics sent to me from Ann Christie, Deserthunter RRs, of her newest babies. Sheba (Deserthunter Chinook) whelped 11 beautiful puppies a week ago to our boy Chukkie (Ch Chilolo Alaska Blue). Unfortunately one little girl didn't make it past the first 48 hours but the remaining 10 are all fat and healthy. All puppies have ridges although one has a very short ridge and so far there is no dermoid sinus so they are off to a great start.
24 May
The last show of a 3 day weekend is Mayborough Kennel Club and Mrs Dorr awards Minty Best of Breed and Best Intermediate in Group and Trio takes out Runner Up Best of Breed and BEST PUPPY IN SHOW! Way to go little Trio man!!
The best part of the whole weekend was that we had so many positive comments from people we didn't even know on how good Minty and Trio looked. And I shouldn't forget Bobbie - Emma's American Cocker Spaniel bitch. Emma had some lovely compliments on how good her coat is and how well groomed she is.
Bobbie took Best of Breed and Best Junior in Group all 3 days!!
Unfortunately I didn't take my camera so don't have any photos from the weekend.
23 May
Sid Munton from Tasmania awards Trio Best of Breed but Minty only gets 2nd in her class so it was not her day!! I judged gundogs at the open show and really enjoyed the experience. My best in group was a labrador and runner up was a very nice field spaniel.
22 May
Off to Maryborough which is about 3 hours north and not an area we usually show in. At the Fraser Coast Show under Ms G Alexander from Victoria, Minty takes Group 1 (Best Exhibit in Hound Group) and Trio is Challenge Dog and Best Puppy in Group.
16 May
News from the UK - Teddy (son of our Sam) takes out Best of Breed at the Scottish Kennel Club today under well known judge Mrs Pat Thorne. Well done Nicholas and Teddy!
10 May
Had a great day today at the Waterloo Bay Kennel Club show in Brisbane under Mrs S Sutherland from Victoria. Bentley was awarded Best of Breed and was shortlisted for Best In Hound Group. Trio was Reserve Challenge Dog and BEST MINOR PUPPY IN GROUP and Minty was Reserve Challenge Bitch and BEST INTERMEDIATE IN GROUP.
9 May
Minty is on a roll as she took out 2 BEST IN GROUP awards today - one at Crows Nest and the other in the evening at Waterloo Bay Kennel Club in Brisbane under Mrs Duffin from Victoria. Bentley is also doing well as he took out Challenge Dog which gave him enough points for his Australian Champion title. Way to go Bentley!!
Martini is very obviously pregnant afterher AI on 3 April but it has not slowed down much. She happily comes running with the others and is looking really fit and well. Hopefully everything will go OK on 5 June!
4 May
Bentley's turn today! He beat Minty and was awarded Best of Breed and RUNNER UP BEST IN GROUP in Brisbane at the Maree Kennel Club show.
3 May
Back in Brisbane and Emma handled Minty to BEST IN GROUP (GROUP 1) at the Rocklea Show today.
2 May
I decided to fly over to Perth to compete at their annual RR specialty show and I took Bentley with me. He handled the flight very well and, as always, he performed well in the ring. He was awarded Reserve Challenge Dog but then he beat the Challenge Dog for Best Gaited Dog and he went on to beat the Best Gaited Bitch to win BEST GAIT OVERALL. The judge said he was a lovely dog, is the correct size and moved beautifully so I was happy. Had a great weekend catching up with Western Australian friends and as usual the grounds were immaculate and the weather was perfect. Pics will be posted as soon as they arrive here.

What a thrill - Sydney Royal and Melbourne Royal are the 2 most prestigious shows in Australia. Bruce, Dilly's owner, is still floating and Emma was so excited.
3rd April
Very exciting news - Martini went to Frozen Puppies Dot Com for her AI today. All went well. The semen was excellent quality and strength and she came thru the operation extremely well. Now all we have to do is wait and see if she is pregnant! If she is, she will be due on 5th June.

20/21/22 March
Emma and I headed off for a weekend of socialising and shows at Tweed River in the northern rivers area of New South Wales about 3 hours from here. We had a great weekend and the highlight was on Saturday when Trio took Best of Breed and BEST MINOR PUPPY IN SHOW. The judge was very complimentary about him and really appreciated his wonderful conformation and gait. Rusty also took out a Best of Breed on Sunday and was shortlisted for the group. We will not be doing so many shows with Rusty now he is titled.
1 March
At Gympie Show, it is Minty's turn to take out Best of Breed and she also goes Best in Hound Group and Best Intermediate in Show under Mrs C Roberts and Mrs V Morrow from New South Wales. Rusty is Challenge Dog and this give him enough points to earn his Australian Championship Title! For a title a dog needs 100 points but 25 of these must be gained after the dog turns 12 months of age. Rusty has a total of 182 points. This weekend he gained 29 points and these are his first shows after his birthday on 4 February. He is a clever little boy and is now Chilolo Champion Number 52!!

Monday 19 January
I received this sad email today regarding Buddy (Aust Ch Chilolo Easy Come Easy Go) born 26 August 1999. I have attached one of my favourite pics of Buddy at a show in the back of the family car with a mouse on his head and a child sitting on him. Buddy will often be remembered.
Dear Rosemary,
Just thought I'd let you know that Buddy is very ill with cancer. It has come on very fast ...New Years he became very full of fluid and hard of breathing. Many tests and many pills but things are not going well so we will let him go on Thursday. It is the most difficult thing that we have ever been through! To say good bye to my shadow, I'm not sure where I will find the strength but I know I must do this for him . He is the most beautiful gentle sole, I can't imagine to be without him.
Thank you for letting him come to live with us .
Monique, Cameron, Kiara, Isere, Kash and Rhory.

12 January
I received this email today with some fantastic pics from Jess Hosking in South Australia. Chimahnu is Minty's brother and Sikhali is a litter sister to Rusty, Bentley and Crisp.
Hi Rosemary,
It's been a while since I've sent you any photos so here are some from our weekend cruise along the Fleurieu Peninsular. Sikhali absolutely loves the water, but Chimahnu's still not a big fan. Sikhali is a typical little sister and constantly stirring Chimahnu, trying to get him to play with her. Sometimes he pretends he's the grumpy old man, but most of the time they have an absolute ball!
|
10 / 11 January
At the local Darling Downs Kennel Club show, Minty was Challenge Bitch and RUBOB on Saturday and Rusty was Puppy In Group. On Sunday, Minty was Best of Breed and RUNNER UP BEST EXHIBIT IN GROUP under Ms Jeanette Lees (Vic) and Trio was Best Baby Puppy In Group.
