An interesting facebook post from Wendy in Darwin about her puppy, Eliot, who is from our Tessa/Solar litter:
"Wowza!! Eliot's protective instincts are super strong. We were heading up to bed and someone outside tried to slide out back screen door. He went into full alert mode, hackles up and that deep Eff Off growl. Whoever it was gave up and moved on, but E sat at the top of the stairs for 10 minutes on full alert. When he finally came in the bedroom it was to curl up on the corner of the bed looking at the door. Pretty bad ass for a 4 month old."
Also an updated pic of Billie with his owner Matt in WA. Billie and Eliot are litter brothers.
8 November
WOW Nikki Noodle goes RUNNER UP BEST IN SHOW!! Nik is our new import from Russia. He is gorgeous and it is lovely to see judges recognising his quality. The show was in Brisbane and there was strong competition in the 'in group' and 'in show' lineup so we are thrilled with this result.
2 November
Tikki had her puppies today - 11 lovely fat healthy babies. The sire is Solar who is producing some lovely puppies for us.

People often ask whether it is a good idea or not to purchase siblings.
There definite pros and cons but overall I think siblings seem to work well when owned by sensible people. This is an email I received today from Western Australia regarding a brother and sister from our Image - Solar - litter born March 2015.
"Rosemary - Fergie and Thor are both well and the most beautiful, loving dogs - I'm so glad they have each other for when we aren't at home. It was definitely double the trouble when they were puppies, but also double the fun! We put a lot of time into training them with all the basic commands (and a few clever ones!) and walking on the lead.
They've always eaten together and slept together and they sort out their differences- they're certainly the best of friends. For a little while growing up, they seemed to be more interested in each other than us, but they've grown into very unique personalities haha. We get lots of compliments and people stopping all the time. Kind regards, Hayley"

Happy birthday to our Dudley/Chatter babies and in particular from Greg and Kristen: "Happy 1st birthday to our George! ?? ?? Even though you've eaten plenty of shoes, Nan and Pops couch and all of our plants, we love you to bits and wouldn't have you any other way!" Sounds like George is a bit naughty!!

23 October
Today I received emails from Dogs Queensland advising that Solar (Ch Kysaridge Ceezu Solar Gold) and Tikki (Ch Chilolo WBI Bikwa) have both qualified for the Best of Winners competition to be held 18 November in Brisbane.
Also Taboo (Chilolo CD Tanami Taboo) and her brother Koopa (Chilolo CD Talk Of The Tanami) have both qualified for Puppy Winner of the Year competition. Ron will be there with Koopa and Julie will take Solar and Taboo.
Tikki will have babies so will not compete but it is lovely to have our 4 dogs recognised as the show is by invitation only and the dogs have to qualify with wins through the year.

Received this sad email from Rachel today:
"Hi Rosemary, I just wanted to let you know that 2 weeks ago today I finally said goodbye to both Oscar and Zoya. I am devastated and seriously not coping well at all with my 2 best friends gone. I wanted to send you photo of them in their final days, as right to the very end Oscar was so unbelievably beautiful.
I wanted to thank you for allowing me to be a part of his life, the best decision we ever made. I also wanted to say that although I am not currently ready for new puppies (although I desperately wish I could overcome my sadness to move on, but just can't yet), when you are next ready for a litter would you please keep me in mind, or put me on your list?
The loneliness and emptiness I feel is overwhelming and I know eventually it will get too much. I now know that I could never be without Rhodesians in my life. Thank you again and take care and I hope to hear from you in the near future. Kind regards, Rachael"
Oscar and Zoya were litter mates from our Becky/Peter litter born 10 January 2004 so they were 13.5 years old when Rachel and her family had to say that final goodbye.

21/22 July
While I was in Melbourne judging Hounds and Non Sporting groups for Melbourne Dog Club and Lyndhurst Canine Club, Karen and Tao had a fabulous weekend taking out Runner UP Best in Group on Saturday and going one better with Best In Group and RUNNER UP BEST IN SHOW at Murwillumbah on Sunday.
Tao is from our Minty/Cracker litter and is officially Ch Chilolo MCR Tao on Fire(AI) ET TD and the judge yesterday was hound specialist Mrs Lyn Watson from Victoria. As well as Tao's success, Julie and Solar (Ch Kysaridge Ceezu Solar Gold) were awarded Best of Breed at all three shows in Brisbane over the weekend under a panel of international judges. Very proud of the success of our dogs with other people handling them. Way to go ladies!!
11 July
We are so proud and happy to announce the safe arrival in Australia of our precious boy, Nik. Nik is officially known as Jelany Red Nikaya for Chilolo and he was born on 10 May 2016 so he is 14 months old. He was born in Russia and bred by Elena Kamle of the very well known kennels, Jelany Red and because dogs cannot be imported directly from Russia into Australia, he has spent the last 6 months with Emma in the USA. Nik has the most amazing temperament - he is very sweet and affectionate and easy to get on with and he has settled in exceptionally since arriving 3 weeks ago.
He had his first show in Brisbane on Sunday and he was awarded Best of Breed, shortlisted for Best in Group and was then awarded Best Junior In Group. We will be breeding him with our girls later this year and look forward to see what he can produce. He has the most amazing pedigree.
His father is a wonderful dog, International Champion Makao Line Atuin Art. At the World Dog Show held in Moscow in August 2016, Atuin was placed Best In Show 4 which means he was the 4th place dog overall and considering there were over 25,000 dogs entered from 40 different countries, that was an amazing result.
Nik's mother is International Champion Aresvuma Olana Red who was Top RR Female in Europe in 2013. I have met Atuin and Olana and they both have lovely temperaments which is so important to us when breeding. We are over the moon with Nik and can't wait to see what the future brings.

8/9 July
Lovely news over the weekend with Stephen and Ranger in Perth taking out Reserve Challenge Dog in Rangers first show against the older dogs. He is 6.5 months old and the judge was very complimentary so well done Stephen and Ranger.
In New South Wales Karen and Tao were Challenge Dog and R/Up Best of Breed on Friday and Saturday and Best of Breed on Sunday.
Karen and Tao also did really well the previous weekend with Tao achieving the title of Tracking Dog. This is not an easy sport and requires dedication on the handler's part and intelligence and willingness to work on the part of the dog. Great achievement for Karen and Tao!
|
1 & 2 July
Stephen and Ranger in Perth travelled to the Geraldton shows and were rewarded by taking Best Baby Puppy in Hound Group on both days! Well done Stephen and Ranger!! Ranger is from our Solar/Image litter and these were his last shows in baby puppy so now he is up against the big boys!

18 June
Today Mike and Jo were giving Hugo (their Image/Solar puppy) a walk at the local dog park when poor Hugo was attacked by a cattle dog. Hugo rolled over in a submissive gesture to the cattle dog and he was then bitten on his stomach. An awful experience for everyone concerned.
At least the owner of the cattle dog has paid the $1200 vet fee required to stitch poor Hugo's wounds and he should make a full recovery. This is always a danger with public places and it would be nice if people either did not walk aggressive dogs or at least kept them on leads and under control.

Another lovely email from John who has Diesel from our Solar/Image litter born January this year: "Diesel is doing well , loved by us all and growing fast . He had his puppy and manners course and about to start a obedience training course next. His done great so far , & the 4 of us go With him to each class .
He's such a gorgeous dog, Rochele has the odd bad week of illness so is home with him each day, and she absolutely adores him. So Thankyou again.
Cheers John"

Received this lovely email today from Jim and his wife Bec who live in Canberra. They bought their first RR puppy from our Solar/Image litter, they named her 'Charlotte' and are delighted with her.
"Hi Rosemary, I wanted to give you an update on wonderful Charlotte. Attached are two photos of her at the Sydney International Horse Trials yesterday with Bec. She had a great time playing with other dogs as we walked the cross country course and she consequently slept very well that night. As can be seen she is growing up quickly and it is now an effort to pick her up.
She spends many of her days with Bec doing her vet rounds and playing with her clients dogs so is making many friends and has already been to several horse competitions where she is so popular and gets so much attention.
Still likes stealing anything on the ground that she knows she shouldn't, like the horse's bell boots and tortures the cat for sport but has been shortened up a few times by the feline and they are slowly getting better. Bec has already started to develop a sit with Charlotte.
She is so intelligent, beautiful and adorable. We are continually so grateful to you for creating, and allowing us to have the sweetest dog imaginable. Hope all is well and we will keep you updated down the track. Regards, Jim"

Another lovely email received today:
"Hi Rosemary, I know my wife Kirsten has been in touch with you lately about our dog Roxy and future litters, however I just wanted to send some better photos of her so you can see what she looks like now. Roxy was born from a Minty and Cracker litter in June 2014 so she will be turning 3 soon. After some initial behavioural problems, she has undergone some persistent training and she is now an obedient and well trained dog and a joy to take walking. We let her off the leash (at appropriate places of course) so she can run freely and she loves nothing more than to stretch out and run joyously. She always seems to smile when she gets to run!
It's a great sight to see them running flat out!! She comes in every night to lay on her rug with us while we are together as a family (she hates to be left out!), and she comes with us on family holidays. In short she is a loved part of our family and she returns the love with her good nature, good obedience and being a good guard dog! We are now thinking of another ridgeback as a companion for her!!! I have attached some photos for you. Regards Dayne"

Received this lovely email today from Tim who bought Scout for his family this time last year. Scout is from our litter of 15 by Chukkie and Tikki.
"Hi Rosemary, I thought you might like to see some pictures of Scout a year on since she has been with us. She's just over 33 kg and just loves being near and with the girls all the time. Apart from some stubborn demodectic mange when she was around 6 months we've had no issues with her and are very happy to have as part of our household. She's very popular with clients at my wife's practice due to her friendly nature. Regards, Tim"

I love it when we get feedback from puppies bought from us. Duke is from our Dudley/Chatter litter (brother to Taboo) and now belongs to the O'Callaghan family in Brisbane:
"Hi Rosemary, All is going well with Duke. We're all still smitten although he has taken to dragging the mat, under the water bowl across my floor to get my attention when he's hungry ... which leaves a huge mess! But I forgive him! Is the puppy Taboo from Dukes litter? I saw the video you uploaded - I loved it. I'm curious to know what's the weight of the Puppies in the litter? Dukes has doubled which of course like any Mother, I'm patting myself on the back for ! Best, Amanda O'C"

16 January
I have linked all the Dudley/Bling puppy owners up by email which is fun as we can see the sameness and differences between the puppies as they grow. Anne and Paul live locally at Highfields and their puppy is Hudson " Hi All Our family have nearly 7 month old Hudson. He has such a good temperament and is great with our 3 kids who absolutely love him.
We had him desexed at the end of December and he weighed 28.5kg and we weighed him tonight and he was 32.5kg - he is growing so quickly and starting to become more solid. He loves taking me for a walk and enjoys running around down at the sports oval with a friend's dog (another one of Rosemary's dogs).
Up until about 3 weeks ago he was such a good boy, but we are feeling your pain Jon & Gabby - well half of it anyway!! He has turned into a chewing monster and is now chewing on anything and everything from outdoor settings, power chords, air conditioners, fences, hoses, leads, and his favourite chew toy our 5 year old labrador. Glad to hear that this is hopefully only a phase. We just need to remember not to leave anything at all lying around.
It's been great hearing what all his brothers and sisters have been up to and to see the photos. Hudson looks very much like his brother Raz I think. We haven't had any problems with food, he is eating Bonnie Puppy. He was slow to start off with but wolfs down his meals now. He also enjoys the left over vegetables from the kids. We're looking forward to seeing him grow some more. Paul & Anne"

Update on 2 naughty puppies from Dudley and Bling owned by Jon and Gabby at the Gold Coast " Hey guys and gals, Thank you for all of your ideas regarding our 2 chewing machines Jeter and Ellie. We introduced the out door setting to Vicks, like 2 whole tubs of it, smeared all over the chair legs and table legs and touch wood they continue to leave it all alone.
We also gave then huge marrow bones that they wake us up at 4:00am with, dropping it on the deck. Fingers crossed they don't start chewing other things like you mentioned Anne?? good luck, at least you've only got one 7 month old chewing lunatic ?? give the Vicks a try, it seems to be working. They are absolute angels when they are sleeping hahaha. We wouldn't have them any other way, we love them to death."

14/15 January
What a very bitter / sweet weekend it has been. Our sincere thanks to Gavin and Renae and to Jess and her family for giving our dogs such wonderful homes.
Very sad news from Gavin in Toowoomba. Rocky was from our Herc and Ripple litter born 1 January 2017 and lost far too early. "We made the very hard decision to put Rocky to sleep this afternoon. He went very fast and peacefully and is no longer suffering. We are devastated! Rocky was my best mate and loving companion right until the end. He went with Renae and I patting him and Moet sitting next to the table. Today has been a hard day but I know he is now at rest. Thanks for breeding such a wonderful boy with the best temperament we could have asked for. Gavin and Renae"
And on the same day from the Hoskings family in Adelaide. Chimahnu and Rocky were litter brothers. "Less than 3 weeks after saying goodbye to Sikhali, we have also said our final goodbye to Chimahnu. Chimahnu was our first ridgeback and such a special dog. He and Sikahli will have their ashes scattered together at a beautiful place where we shared lots of experiences. He was such a beautiful boy, amazing with our boys and he is going to leave a huge hole in our hearts and home. There will never be a dog like him, we loved him so much. Thank you for allowing him to come live with us ten years ago. We will treasure our memories of him forever. When we open our hearts again and give another dog the life a ridgeback deserves to have we will definitely be in touch. There's no ridgeback like a Chilolo ridgeback!"
I am very glad there was some good news over the weekend!
Nikki, our puppy currently in the USA, was awarded Best of Winners and Best Opposite Sex on Friday, Best of Winners on Saturday and Winners Dog on Sunday. These were Nikki's first shows and the only problem with his behaviour was that he was so happy he kept jumping up in the ring!
Nikki is officially known as "Jelany Red Nikaya For Chilolo". He was born in Russia and but has to spend 6 months in the US before he can come to Australia.
And in Toowoomba, Julie and Solar took a group 2 at the open show on Saturday evening. Tikki was reserve challenge on Sunday and her daughter, Zahli, was Reserve Challenge on Saturday. Well done to Vanessa with Leeuw ( Marandela King Leopold - a Trio/Ruby son bred by Karen) for taking out Best of Breed and Best Intermediate In Hound Group.

Another email from Leigh and Tony who own Raz from our Bling/Dudley litter born 28 June 2016. Leigh and Tony live on acreage at Mt Tambourine in Queensland:
"Our boy Raz is 6months old now and an absolute character. He is well behaved on the lead and walking freely until he spots another dog or child and then hell breaks loose!!?? He can convert a quiet dog beach to mayhem in 10 seconds! We have never fenced him in and he happily goes outside and just hangs around near the house. I think RRs bond really well. Leigh"

Mitch in Melbourne bought 'Bruce' from our Chatter/Dudley litter born 23 October and this is an email received today
" He is a very good looking boy!! It's always nice when you can have your dog walk with off the lead and be well behaved. We picked Bruce up at the end of December and he's now almost 11 weeks old. He looks almost identical to your photo of Tyson as a puppy Jacq. He is such a good boy with the best temperament. I already have him walking on and off lead with me but living in Melbourne, he's sometimes not all that keen for a walk when it's 35'C + outside!! Cheers Mitch"

Lovely when people give us feedback on puppies we have bred. This is Tyson, from our Bling/Dudley litter who lives with Jacqueie and her family in Sydney:
"Tyson is now 6mths old. We just had him desexed and he weighed 27kg. I can't believe how much he's grown in a few months. His paws are huge. He's such a lovely affectionate boy. He's now walking off the lead through Sydney Park and even managed to behave well when we went away. Thanks Jacq"
